Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Macan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW X6 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Macan are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW X6 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 8 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in long-term dependability. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, BMW is rated lower.

Transmission

The Macan offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The X6 doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

Suspension and Handling

For greater off-road capability the Macan has a greater minimum ground clearance than the X6 (8.9 vs. 8.5 inches), allowing the Macan to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Porsche Macan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 850 to 900 pounds less than the BMW X6.

The Macan is 8.7 inches shorter than the X6 xDrive40i, making the Macan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Payload

The Macan has a much higher standard payload capacity than the X6 (1290 vs. 1082 lbs.).

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Macan has a standard rear wiper. The X6 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Macan second among compact premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The X6 isn’t in the top three in its category.

The Macan was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 7 more times in the last 10 years. The X6 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
