The Taycan’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Mirai doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Taycan and Mirai have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Taycan has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Mirai’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Taycan offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Mirai doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Taycan helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Mirai doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Taycan and the Mirai have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Taycan comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Mirai’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Taycan’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Mirai’s (12 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Taycan first among upper midsize premium cars in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The Mirai isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 20 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated lower.

The Taycan Performance Battery’s standard electric motor produces 220 more horsepower (402 vs. 182) and 81 lbs.-ft. more torque (302 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The Taycan 4 Performance Battery’s standard electric motors produces 220 more horsepower (402 vs. 182) and 210 lbs.-ft. more torque (431 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The Taycan Performance Battery Plus’ standard electric motor produces 247 more horsepower (429 vs. 182) and 88 lbs.-ft. more torque (309 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The Taycan 4 Performance Battery Plus’ standard electric motors produces 247 more horsepower (429 vs. 182) and 228 lbs.-ft. more torque (449 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The Taycan Turbo GT’s standard electric motors produces 837 more horsepower (1019 vs. 182) and 693 lbs.-ft. more torque (914 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor.

The Taycan’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Mirai doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the Taycan’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Mirai:

The Taycan offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Mirai doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Taycan stops much shorter than the Mirai:

For better traction, the Taycan’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Mirai (F:265/35R21 & R:305/30R21 vs. 235/55R19).

The Taycan’s standard 275/45R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mirai’s standard 55 series tires. The Taycan’s optional 265/35R21 front and 305/30R21 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Mirai’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Taycan offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Mirai’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The Taycan AWD offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Mirai doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Taycan uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Mirai, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Taycan offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Toyota doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Mirai.

The Taycan has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The Mirai’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Taycan has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Taycan’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Mirai doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Taycan is 3.8 inches wider in the front and 3 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Mirai.

The Taycan Turbo GT Weissach handles at 1.15 G’s, while the Mirai XLE pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Taycan Turbo GT Weissach executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 5.4 seconds quicker than the Mirai XLE (21.9 seconds @ 1.03 average G’s vs. 27.3 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Taycan w/Rear Axle Steering’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the Mirai’s (36.7 feet vs. 38.5 feet).

The front grille of the Taycan uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Mirai doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Taycan has a much larger trunk than the Mirai (17.3 vs. 9.6 cubic feet).

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Taycan to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Toyota doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Mirai.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Porsche first in service department satisfaction. With a 54% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 24th.

When three different drivers share the Taycan, the memory system makes it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat (memory seat optional for the front passenger), steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster), outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations. The Mirai doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Taycan’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Mirai doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Taycan’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Mirai XLE’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Taycan offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Mirai doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Taycan also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Taycan’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Mirai has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

On extremely cold winter days, the Taycan’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Mirai doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Taycan offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Mirai.

The Taycan’s optional Active Parking Support can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote ParkAssist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Mirai Limited’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The Porsche Taycan comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Toyota Mirai isn’t available as a station wagon.
